Plugging along without the assistance of ex-bassist Carlos D., will return on Sept. 9 with its fifth album, “El Pintor (the Painter).” Today Interpol dropped the new track, “Ancient Ways,” which you can listen to above.

The departure of Carlos D. means that lead vocalist Paul Banks will assume bass duties and ex-Secret Machines boss, Brandon Curtis, will slip in and help out.

For those fans worried that a new album would possibly mean a change in trajectory, fret not, because the well dressed New York City guys have carried on business as usual. The moody vocals from Banks and blistering bass lines are all present on “Ancient Ways.”

Look for Interpol to come to Denver next month in support of the forthcoming album.
