1 Asleep at the wheel. On Aug. 17, Edgewater police officers were contacted by a Lakewood Police Department agent regarding a vehicle that was stopped in the roadway in the area of Otis Street and 24th Avenue with the driver asleep behind the steering wheel. The officers’ investigation resulted in a 27-year-old Lakewood man being arrested for DUI and released to a detox center with a Jefferson County Court summons.

2 Hat trick. A man was arrested Aug. 6 for stealing four hats from Octopus Carwash, 7490 W. Colfax Ave., Lakewood. The man took the hats and ran through the parking lot; he was apprehended near the intersection of West 14th Avenue and Vance Street. The hats were valued at $26.99 apiece.

3 Just kicking it. Lakewood police were called Aug. 8 to Shop N Save, 1095 S. Wadsworth Blvd., on a report of an unwanted person in the store. A man had returned to the store after having trespassed previously. He was inside the store harassing customers and kicking the wall. He kicked at the officers several times and was restrained with leg cuffs. He was transported to Jefferson County Jail.

4 Hotel violence. Lakewood police arrested a man Aug. 7 on suspicion of domestic violence. Officers were called to the Homestead Motel, 8837 W. Colfax Ave., where a woman had been slapped in the face eight times by her boyfriend, who was angry she had stayed in a different hotel for the past three days and had not called. She also had bruises on her wrists from being restrained by the man.
