Aurora Police respond to the Century Aurora 16 theater on July 20, 2012. (Karl Gehring, The Denver Post)
Re: “No way to foresee Aurora theater shooting,” Aug. 23 editorial.
In response your editorial (and many other articles regarding the Aurora theater shooting), my only question is:
Should not those exit doors be hooked to an alarm system? Had that been the case, alleged shooter James Holmes may not have had time to prop open the door, go to his car to retrieve his equipment, and get back to carry out his horrible plan. Someone could have physically checked the door.
Your editorial asks: “Should theater owners have been able to anticipate such a horrific event?” No. However, alarming those doors only makes financial sense. Whatap to stop someone opening the door and letting a bunch of his friends in (kind of like hiding them in their car trunk to get into a drive-in)?
It just seems like a simple, common-sense procedure.
