U.S. Senate candidate Cory Gardner got a celebrity welcome when he stopped by his old fraternity at Colorado State University.

Gardner and his campaign spokesman, Alex Siciliano, said one student did a double take.

“Holy cow!” he exclaimed. “It’s Cory Gardner!”

Yes, Cory Gardner, the former ram handler at CSU, the former state lawmaker, the Republican congressman from Yuma trying to , a Democrat. The Cory Gardner who, while a college student was, get ready, a Democrat.

Gardner was in Fort Collins for an event Tuesday night and had a little time to spare so decided to check out his old frat house. He graduated summa cum laude with a bachelor’s degree in political science from CSU in 1997. He was a member of FarmHouse Fraternity, which is part but without the Greek letters. Like most frat houses, the walls were filled with composites — pictures of the members in a certain year. “I found a much younger, much skinnier, black-haired Cory Gardner,” the candidate said, with a laugh.
