4) Phish — Aug. 29-31, Dick’s Sporting Goods Park
Phishdicks is becoming somewhat legendary in the jam music world. Bet you never thought you’d hear that sentence. This is what Phish fans playfully call Phish’s annual run of shows at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park in Colorado. The iconic jam band returns to Dick’s Sporting Goods Park this weekend for its fourth Labor Day run. Dick’s “has emerged as a celebrated turning point in the Vermont quartetap storied history,” . And this year, the band returns in support of its 12th studio album, “Fuego.”
3) Sylvan Esso — Aug. 30-31, Hi-Dive
You might not have heard much about Sylvan Esso yet. That might be about to change. The North Carolina electronic-pop duo formed in 2013 and only released its self titled debut album in May. However, young as the band might be, it will be playing two sold out nights at Denver’s Hi-Dive on Aug. 30-31. Some of this success comes from the duo’s pedigree, which includes Amelia Meth of Mountain Man and Feistap touring band, along with Nick Sanborn of Megafaun. The result is playful, rhythmic vocals bounced along with thick production. (Sold out)
2) Inner Oceans, Sunboy, Eros and the Eschaton — Aug. 29, Hi-Dive
Need a great taste of Colorado music this weekend? This is your chance: Inner Oceans, Eros and the Eschaton and Sunboy are playing the Hi-Dive on Aug. 29 for a night of echoing indie pop music. It’s not only an excellent bill of local talent, it’s a logical lineup, too. Each of these acts puts a unique twist on the pop hook, hiding it under layers of synths, reverb and crunch.
1) Arctic Monkeys — Sept. 4, Red Rocks Amphitheatre
Arctic Monkeys have enjoyed a somewhat superstar status in the U.K. since before releasing their first album in 2006. The band became the subject of major media hype from BBC Radio and the British tabloids after releasing their first single. Well, eight years and five albums later, Arctic Monkeys are starting to enjoy the same amount of popularity in the states. After releasing the excellent album “AM” in 2013, the rock band has launched to the top of major U.S. festivals, and on Sept. 4 will make its first headlining appearance at Colorado’s legendary Red Rocks Amphitheatre.
