For months now, it has been clear that the GOP strategy for winning the governor’s race and a new ad released today by the Republican Governors Association hits directly on that theme.
The RGA admits as much, saying the commercial illustrates the “inept leadership” Hickenlooper attempts to “hide beneath his funny-guy façade.” A clemency sign and a beer mug in the spot are clever touches. (Apparently the RGA is unaware that leadership for getting a fracking compromise few thought was possible.)
The ad tries to send a message that Hickenlooper is not as good a politician as he is someone who stars in is memorable and funny campaign ads. You know, . The . The dancing .
Coloradans can expect to see the latest round of ads from Hickenlooper next week, according to campaign manager Brad Komar.
“We’re changing our plans and putting our ads on the airwaves next week,” he said today, in an e-mail to supporters.”The Republican Governors Association has been attacking John for 17 straight days and they’re not letting up anytime soon. We can’t wait until the middle of September to respond.
“The good news is our ads are positive and look great. The bad news is the extra week of airtime is going to cost us $300,000 that we did not have in our original budget. Can you pitch in $5 and help us cover the difference?”
