Getting your player ready...

Gerell Robinson showed in his practice time with the Broncos the ability to become a Julius Thomas-type tight end.

Problem was, Julius Thomas was in his way. Then the Cleveland Browns solved the problem.

After starting a third season on a practice squad, Robinson finally make it to a 53-man roster as he was signed by the Browns on Tuesday.

“I’m excited for a new beginning,” Robinson said from Cleveland. “I’ve been waiting for this opportunity (to make a 53-man roster) for a long time. It’s bittersweet, because I spent a lot of time with those guys in the (Broncos) locker room. They’re a great group of guys, and it’s a top-notch organization. So hopefully everything works out for them. I’m looking forward to a new chapter in my life.”

Brock Osweiler’s favorite receiver during their 2011 season together at Arizona State, Robinson was signed by the Broncos as an undrafted rookie in 2012. After going to camp in Denver, Robinson wound up on the Arizona Cardinals’ practice squad in 2012, then returned to the Broncos last season, when he was converted to tight end.

He suffered a strained knee that sidelined him the past two weeks, but he is close to 100 percent now.

More practice-squad moves. To fill Robinson’s position, the Broncos signed tight end Dominique Jones to their practice squad while waiving receiver Nathan Palmer.

The Broncos still have one opening on their practice squad.

Jones has bounced around since playing at Shepherd University in Shepherds town, W.Va. He has played in the Indoor Football League, the United Football League and for the Indianapolis Colts and the Kansas City Chiefs.

Vickerson to Kansas City. Just in time for their game Sunday in Denver, the Chiefs signed former Broncos defensive tackle Kevin Vickerson.

The 10-year veteran is known for calling out plays as he hears the offensive calls at the line of scrimmage, so Peyton Manning might have to mix up his “Omaha” chants this week.

Team Bowlen to walk for Alzheimer’s. Annabel Bowlen, wife of Broncos owner Pat Bowlen, and Bowlen family members have formed their own team for the Walk to End Alzheimer’s event Saturday, Sept. 20, at Denver’s City Park.

“Team Super Bowlen” has so far raised nearly $15,000 — and that’s before the Broncos have made their donation.

Annabel and the Bowlen family will participate in the walk. Before training camp, it was announced that Pat Bowlen had stepped back from his role with the team to focus on his battle with Alzheimer’s.
