Troy Tulowitzki returned to Coors Field on Tuesday — and without crutches. The Rockies’ all-star shortstop said he’s eager to start rehab on a surgically-repaired hip.

“I’m excited to be off crutches, that’s the big thing,” Tulowitzki told The Denver Post while the Rockies took batting practice before facing the Dodgers.

“I’m really looking forward to starting rehab and getting back fully healthy in the offseason and coming to spring training 100 percent.”

Tulowitzki in mid-August underwent surgery in Vail to . He played in 91 games this season, but not since July 19 in Pittsburgh, when he injured his upper thigh/hip.

In 2012, Todd Helton underwent a similar surgery in 2012 and returned without hip pain for his final season in 2013.

Tulowitzki said he was nervous about the surgery at first, but learned how many other players had a similar surgery and how well they did, including the Royals’ Alex Gordon and Broncos wide receiver Wes Welker.

“I talked to Todd, that gave me some peace of mind,” . “We had some similarities in our hip, though maybe we didn’t have the same issues going on.”

In his injury downtime, while resting before rehab starts in full, Tulowitzki joked that he’s in four fantasy football leagues.

“You can tell I had surgery,” he said. “If I was playing, I’d probably only be in one.”

Great to see Tulo out at BP today:
