Interview with Robin Gayton, owner

Q: How did you get involved in this business?

A: I started dancing when I was 7 years old and was raised in a dance studio. At age 14, I was a Denver Broncette, so I traveled and was exposed to national dance conventions. I wanted to teach dancing and own my own business.

Q: What distinguishes you from other businesses in your category?

A: Gayton Dance has been in business in the north metro area for 39 years. I have trained some of the best dancers, who went on to colleges for dance degrees, the Denver Nuggets dancers, the Bronco cheerleaders and Vegas stages. Gayton Studio has an outstanding staff of instructors who are on the cutting edge of choreography.

Q: What do you like best about your line of work?

A: I love watching my students perform for impressive events — Royal Carribean Cruisliner, (five tours), the Harlem Globetrotters halftime performance, 1stBank Center, the Denver Nugget halftime performances, Ringling Bros. and Barnum and Bailey circus performances. I love seeing my kids give 150 percent to something they love to do. Every year, their confidence builds, and that is so exciting for me.

Q: What is your business’ biggest challenge?

A: The consumer I have to serve — to provide them with the best facility, teachers, ethics and service.

Q: Something people might be surprised to learn about you or your business:

A: Gayton studio is in its third generation of families we have trained. My sister Jody and I own Gayton and are coming to our 40th year in business. We take pride in teaching our 3- to 4-year-olds. We feel these kids need to learn their first steps from Gayton.
