Entering Week 4, there were three Colorado prep football teams that have held their opponents scoreless — St. Mary’s, Berthoud and Dayspring Christian Academy.
Now Dayspring Christian stands alone.
The defending 8-man champion, ranked No. 1 in the Associated Press media poll, has outscored its opponents 206-0 after four games this year. The Eagles won 46-0 at Las Animas Friday to become the last team in the state to still have a doughnut in their points-allowed column.
St. Mary’s allowed a touchdown in a 27-7 win over University on Friday, while Niwot connected on a touchdown pass in the final minute of its 42-6 loss to Berthoud.
Dayspring Christian will have its work cut out next week if it wants to continue the shutout. The Eagles host No. 3 Caliche at 1 p.m. Sept. 27 in a rematch of last year’s state championship game.
The team also has one of the state’s best records in recent memory. Winners of 39 of their last 40, Dayspring Christian has a record of 81-7 with three state championships since 2007.
