During a meeting that just finished with DeMaurice Smith, executive director of the NFL Players Association, Bronco players elected tight end Jacob Tamme as their union rep and Von Miller as their union alternate.

“The team meetings we conduct are the backbone of our union,” Smith said from the team headquarters’ parking lot Tuesday. “Today we elected team representatives from a team that has had a very strong history of incredibly strong union leaders. I was able to remind them about guys like Mark Schlereth. And how Von Miller and Peyton Manning were two of the players who sued the league (during the lockout) of 2011, which protected players rights and is a big reason why the Broncos are spending 109.45 percent of the salary cap. And old-time reps like DeMarcus Ware when he was in Dallas were fighting for players who would they never know. So yes we get to tell good stories, but only because we have strong leaders.”
