Film series: “Science Friction” sparks unique list of bizarre sci-fi classics
thursday. If there’s anyone in town qualified to host a film series on bizarre, under-appreciated sci-fi classics, it’s Jason Heller and Frank Romero. Heller is a Hugo-award winning Denver sci-fi writer and cultural critic for Pitchfork, The A.V. Club and Entertainment Weekly, while Romero is a co-founder of the wildly popular Denver Comic Con. Their new “Science Friction” series — which kicks off with David Cronenberg’s classic “Videodrome” (Oct. 16) and continues with the John Carpenter space curio “Dark Star” (Oct. 23), the traumatic “Halloween III” (Oct. 30) and Japanese import “Nausicca of the Valley of the Wind” (Nov. 19) — includes giveaways and expert introductions. Prepare to have your mind expanded. Starts 7:30 p.m. Oct. 16 at the Alamo Drafthouse Littelton, 7301 S. Santa Fe Dr. $10.75. John Wenzel
