BOULDER — Terry Kiernan, the ex-director of one of Broomfield’s most prominent charities who was charged this summer with felony possession of thousands of images of child pornography, waived his right to a preliminary hearing on Friday and is set for arraignment in December.

Waiving the preliminary hearing allows Kiernan’s case to proceed to trial, though not right away. Neither he nor his lawyer, Michael Cohen, spoke at any length before District County Judge Francis Wasserman, but their action on Friday meant Kiernan surrendered his right to testify in his own defense or to confront witnesses through cross-examination.

Kiernan will next appear in court in Broomfield at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 11 for arraignment.

The charges against him stem from a search warrant Broomfield police executed June 12 on computers at Broomfield FISH, the food pantry and housing assistance nonprofit Kiernan took over in 2010.
