Authorities in Mesa County say a 12-year-old boy under the influence of marijuana at his middle school late last month was issued a court summons.
A school resource deputy with the county sheriff’s office responded to a local middle school on Sept. 26 a report of a 12-year-old student acting unusual.
“The deputy who responded to this incident is extensively trained in drug recognition, and through the course of observations and certain instructed maneuvers, the deputy determined the 12-year-old was under the influence of suspected marijuana,” the office said in a news release on Wednesday.
Authorities say the child, who was not named, also self admitted to using marijuana in “an ongoing capacity.”
“The child received a summons to court and additional disciplinary actions from school officials,” the office said. “The deputy also addressed this incident with the child’s parent.”
Authorities did not identify the middle school.
