With each passing week, boaters will find fewer ramps open and restricted inspection hours. Be sure to check the managing agency’s website before heading to a lake. Lonetree and Boedecker reservoirs will close to boating Nov. 1. Barr Lake is closed to boating because of low water levels. Area rivers and creeks are low, clear and fishing well. Streamers are a good option for aggressive brown trout. Horsetooth Reservoir is fishing well for smallmouth bass, and the trout action has picked up. Chatfield is a bit slow, trout and smallmouth being the species caught the most. Cherry Creek continues to produce a few walleye, most undersized. Aurora, Arvada and Bear Creek have all been producing fair numbers of trout using bait. Don’t overlook smaller waters, such as Lowell Ponds, for fast action on small bass and bluegills.
