“We generally saw gains in business filings, but new entity filings really accelerated, much due to the reduced filing fees for the quarter,” said Brian Lewandowski, a research associate with the University of Colorado’s Leeds School of Business, which prepared the report.

There were 27,640 filings for new businesses and other entities in the third quarter, a record 32.2 percent increase from the third quarter of 2013. For the 12 months ending Sept. 30, there were 99,297 new filings, up 10.7 percent from the previous 12-month period.
There were 108,704 business renewals during the quarter, up 7.1 percent from the same quarter a year earlier, and 5,060 business dissolution requests, up 15.6 percent.
