U.S. Sen. Mark Udall can’t seem to catch a break these days. First he was ridiculed nationally for his dubious comment that he’s the last person the White House wants to , and now he’s being ridiculed internationally for being “brain dead,” as he called it, when asked softball questions during a TV interview.
Udall initially couldn’t name three books that influenced his life or a recent song that he had listened to, saying to KMGH’s Marc Stewart,
“Let me think. We can play this over, right? I mean, re-tape this?”
Channel 7 has asked various candidates the same questions, about a variety of issues, including , and . Stewart has not yet interviewed Udall’s GOP opponent, Republican Congressman Cory Gardner, but there’s no doubt that by now he knows all the questions because of the publicity over Udall’s answers.
When asked whether was “good” or “bad” Udall said “yes.” Stewart then jokingly said it was time for some “tough” questions. When asked his favorite weekend getaway in Colorado, Udall said “Crested Butte,” which is where he first lived when he moved to Colorado and where he met his wife, Maggie Fox. When asked about the books, Udall initially could come up with only “Profiles in Courage.”
said it was reminiscent of Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s “famed ‘oops’ moment in 2011 when he couldn’t name all three federal agencies he wanted to abolish.
Udall has trailed Gardner in recent polls, .
