Getting your player ready...

FORT COLLINS — Jim McElwain tries to spread out his challenges, roster-wide, and this week the Colorado State coach asked members of the “scout teams” — those who won’t be on the 64-man traveling squad for the Saturday game at San Jose State — to energize the practices.

“I thought they elevated the way practice went today,” McElwain said after practice Tuesday. “We got some good things out of it.”

McElwain said that starting guard Mason Myers, who missed the Wyoming game with a knee injury, “took some snaps.” McElwain added, “I think he should be ready for emergency service, and that’s good news.”

Running back Jasen Oden Jr., who also didn’t play against Wyoming because of a back issue, was in pads Tuesday, but McElwain said whether he makes the trip depends on whether he will be ready for special-team duty.

The Rams, 7-1 and riding a six-game winning streak, will be playing their only remaining out-of-state game Saturday. After the game against the Spartans, who have beaten CSU three times in a row, the Rams’ only remaining road game it at Air Force Nov. 28.
