We know how it goes. Finalizing your plans on Halloween can be too much trouble than it’s worth. How do you choose which concert or party to go to? How do you choose what to dress up as? How do you gather all your friends into one place? There are plenty of Halloween concerts tonight in the Denver area, so, to give you one less thing to stress about we narrowed it down to the five best. Oh, and if you need a playlist for today, Party safe.
5) Method Man & Redman — Gothic Theatre
It feels like Method Man & Redman will use any excuse to come to Denver. They were here on 4/20, on New Year’s Eve and, now, here they are on Halloween. It’s not a party night in Denver if Meth & Red aren’t around. What do you think each of the rappers will dress up as? We’re guessing that Method Man will be dressed as Cat in the Hat and Redman will dress up as Redman from “Seed of Chucky” (see video above). We bet we got at least one of those right. Anyone who will be at Meth & Red’s show at the Gothic Theatre tonight better report back with their costume choices.
4) Widespread Panic — 1stBank Center
If there’s one thing we know about neo-hippie culture, it’s that they’re prone to dressing up in elaborate clothing for concerts — looking the vintage ’60s part is half the fun. Do a quick Google search for Widespread Panic crowd, then scan the people in the audience. You’ll see bandannas, headbands, tie die, flowing dresses, etc. It’s all a big game of dress-up. So you can only imagine what these fans will do for a show on Halloween. And when Widespread Panic kicks off its three-night run on one of the biggest party days of the year, you know the crowd and the band will bring their best.
3) The Other Black — Moe’s Denver
An afro wig, furry coats, overalls, no shirt, big sunglasses — this is only a small sampling of what the Other Black’s Cosmic Slim will wear on stage for a normal show. So, when the band is headlining a costume party on Halloween at Moe’s Barbecue, the expectations are high for what Slim’s ensemble will consist of. The solid local lineup is rounded out by Lemon Future, Izcalli and Sleazy Grease. Oh, and here’s another reminder that it’s costume party, but keep in mind you’re not going to outdo Cosmic Slim.
2) Cherub — The Ogden Theatre
There’s this Cherub video for “Doses and Mimosas” that pretty much consists of the two guys in the electro-pop duo drinking on a roof. He says things like “Substance Abusin” and “What’s the point of language if you don’t say what you feel.” You could probably think of this as a song about getting messed up and partying, or about his abuse of alcohol and drugs and how it destroyed his relationships. On Halloween most people will probably think of it as the former, but the latter is not a bad thing to keep in mind. Regardless, this will be one of tonight’s biggest dance parties, which is exactly why it’s sold out.
1) GWAR — The Summit Music Hall
Say what you will about GWAR, but this show will be the ultimate Halloween experience. Can you imagine spending Oct. 31 getting sprayed with blood and watching effigies of political figures be decapitated? It’s like, when else would it be appropriate to go to a GWAR show? Don’t take it seriously by any means, it’s just diving into a horror film/concert experience. Be glad your job isn’t to clean the Summit Music Hall on Nov. 1.
