Getting your player ready...

Air Academy’s Austin Dewing is like so many of the rest of us.

He doesn’t understand why U.S. Soccer discourages boys from playing high-school soccer.

“I find it very odd,” the Kadets senior said.

We are in the second year of dozens of top players passing on the prep level for academy and club action.

Dewing, who now has 34 goals on the year for an AIr Academy team headed to the Class 4A final on Saturday.

Indeed, he still plays club, in the sring, btu sees no reason why he needs to miss high high-school season, which he much prefers.

“I was offered a spot, but turned it down,” he said, “because I think this is a much better experience.

And the schoolboy level could be the better for it, he added.

” There are a lot of great players who could be playing,” he said.

And he’s just glad he;s one of them who is actually competing for his high school..
