Following a four-hour standoff, a man who had purportedly barricaded himself inside a Denver home Wednesday evening was not present when police entered the residence.
Police said an arrest warrant was subsequently issued for Miguel Hernandez, 23, on charges that included menacing with a deadly weapon and third-degree assault in an incident that began Wednesday evening.
A police spokesman said officers were alerted regarding what was called a “domestic situation” in northeast Denver involving an armed suspect.
Police cordoned off the area near East 40th Avenue and Clayton Street in connection with the event, which started with an argument between and Hernandez and a woman. When police arrived, according to the spokesman, Hernandez was outside the home with what appeared to be a long gun.
When officers approached, the man ran inside creating what police called a “barricade situation.” A SWAT unit was called to the scene.
The police spokesman said the woman involved in the dispute ran away from the scene, but added it was unclear whether anyone else was inside the home.
After a search warrant was issued, officers entered the home.
