After getting its start playing shows between its hometown of Austin and its adopted hometown of Denver, teenage rock group has signed to Warner-owned record label Sire.
Residual Kid has been a familiar face in the Denver area, playing here multiple times a year, including The Denver Post’s in 2013 and 2014.
“Since the first time we played in Denver it’s kinda just felt like home,” Residual Kid bassist Max Redman told Reverb. “Some of our best shows have been there and all of the bands we’ve met have become our friends. We love Hi-Dive and 3 Kings but we’re really excited to play the Larimer lounge too… After that show we’ll feel like we’ve really arrived as official members of the local scene.”
The three-piece — made up of brothers Ben Redman (drums, 16) and Max Redman (bass, 14) and Deven Ivy (guitar/vocals, 16) — formed in 2009 when Ben met Ivy at an Austin rock camp. Channeling ’90s grunge with a modern garage-rock twist, the band released its debut EP “Faces” in 2012.
“Despite their young age and youthful appearance Residual Kid are not a boy band, but rather a young and exciting and highly talented rock band,” said Sire founder “This fact is borne out by their audience which was comprised mostly of 18 to 35 year olds, along with many older local veteran musicians in who have taken the band under their wing.”
Residual Kid will return to Denver to headline the Larimer Lounge on Dec. 5 with openers Bud Bronson and the Goodtimers, Ned Garthe Explosion and Speed Wobble.
The band will release an EP in 2015 on Sire/Warner.
