The Colorado Coalition for the Homeless celebrated the grand opening of their Stout Street Health Center and Renaissance Stout Street Lofts on Sept. 9. (Kathryn Scott Osler, The Denver Post)

Seldom considered in the extensive list of election losers are charitable organizations. This year many potential donors diverted their discretionary income to campaign funding, which was used to bombard our senses with seemingly endless political material. Mercifully, the barrage has ceased, but the need has not, as evidenced by long lines at food banks and homeless shelters. As winter approaches, please take a moment to make a contribution to one of the many worthwhile local non-profit agencies such as Denver Urban Ministries, Metro CareRing, or the Colorado Coalition for the Homeless, which provide food, shelter and essential services to the needy in our community. As the folks with the cardboard signs often remind us, “Anything Helps, God Bless.”
