After in both polls announced Sunday — the Rams were 23rd in the Associated Press poll and 25th in the USA Today/coaches poll — the school quoted coach Jim McElwain in a release. It mostly was a repeat of what he had said the night before, following the win over Hawaii, but still was notable considering it was the first time CSU had been ranked since the 2003 preseason poll.
“As I’ve said all along, itap pretty cool that people are taking note of the good things happening at Colorado State University,” McElwain said. “This is just another step in the climb, and I just can’t tell you how proud I am of this team. We have a long way to go, but I’m happy for our fans, for this university and the people in the state of Colorado.”
The last time the Rams were ranked was Aug. 24, 2003 when CSU was No. 23 in the AP voting before losing the season opener to Colorado and going on to a 7-6 season.
