An old mine expedition by a group of college students Sunday evening turned into a rescue mission after one student got stuck exiting the mine entrance, officials said.
Golden Fire Department responded to the mine just west of Tunnel 1 on Highway 6, said Mark Techmeyer, spokesman for Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.
A group of 14 Colorado School of Mines students went to check out the mine Sunday, Techmeyer said. Thirteen of the students got out fine, he said, but “the last one could not fit back out the same way he went in.”
Techmeyer said Golden Fire is extracting him and that the student is not injured.
No suspicious behavior is suspected, he said.
“They should have him out of there really quick,” Techmeyer said.
