DJ Hayden picked off Peyton Manning’s second pass of the game, giving the impression that the winless Raiders could possibly — possibly — get their first win in a year.

But the Broncos quickly turned things around, and the Raiders quickly lost all control.

In the first drive of the third quarter, with the Broncos up 20-10, Oakland’s rookie quarterback Derek Carr panicked in the pocket and threw to the only guy he saw open. Unfortunately that guy, right tackle Khalif Barnes, was obviously not an eligible receiver. But instead of just letting the ball drop, Barnes caught it, hesitated for a moment and then started to run up field.

THEN, just to make the play even worse, he fumbled. Broncos cornerback Chris Harris recovered it and ran it to the Raiders 18-yard line.

The Broncos declined the illegal receiver penalty to retain possession on the Oakland 18, and Manning went on to find Julius Thomas for a 10-yard touchdown pass and put the Broncos up, 27-10. And since the Broncos declined the penalty, Barnes recorded his first career reception.
