As the fantasy season continues through the holiday months and into the playoffs, the waiver wire becomes even thinner, offering just a few players who can help teams make the playoffs.
C.J. Anderson, RB, Denver Broncos — I should have trusted my instincts about Ronnie Hillman: He’s always found a way to lose his starting position, though this time it’s through no fault of his own (he ). Hillman lost carries during the Oakland game to Anderson, who had 90 rushing yards, 73 receiving yards and a touchdown. Part of the problem may be that . That issue could be much more damaging to Hillman’s production than the injury, because the Broncos’ offense centers entirely on Manning. Add a returning Montee Ball in the mix, and the Broncos could have a committee on their hands. But given Ball’s previous ineffectiveness and Hillman’s poor pass protection, Anderson could end up being the guy to own moving forward.
Jordan Matthews, WR, Philadelphia Eagles — It’s time for fantasy owners to take note of Matthews, who was heavily targeted in the . Matthews has now scored three times in the past two games and all of those touchdowns are courtesy of Mark Sanchez, who is developing quite the rapport with the rookie receiver. As long as the “Sanchize” is under center in Philadelphia — which could very well be for the remainder of the season — Matthews figures to be productive.
DEEPER PICKS
Michael Vick, QB, New York Jets — I don’t know what’s happening with Vick and Mark Sanchez — the former starters from the Eagles and Jets, respectively, who have flipped teams — but the two certainly seem comfortable in their new homes. Vick against Pittsburgh Sunday. The upside is limited as Vick has some tough matchups down the stretch including games against Miami, Minnesota, Buffalo and New England.
Austin Seferian-Jenkins, TE, Tampa Bay Buccaneers — Seferian Jenks has scored twice in his last three games and was targeted nine times by Josh McCown. Despite the promising news, Seferian-Jenkins is by no means a week-to-week starter, but a last-ditch option for those needing a tight end.
