It doesn’t happen very often, this business of two women showing up at an event wearing the same outfit. But when it does, it’s always a conversation-starter.
Shelley Lucas, president-elect of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, and Lisa Corley are nothing if not good sports and didn’t seem to mind a bit whenever someone would sidle up and whisper that they might want to stay on this side of the room because someone on the other was wearing an identical baby blue suit.
The occasion was the Brass Ring Luncheon & Fashion Show, and both Lucas and Corley had worn the suits as a tribute to the Carlisle Collection, whose spring styles were being shown that day.
Neither had known about the other’s purchase until they arrived at the Marriott City Center for this event chaired by Lyn Schaffer as a benefit for the Barbara Davis Center for Childhood Diabetes.
This was the first time that the New York-based Carlisle has participated in a charity show, and the fact that Denver was selected was due in large part to the success sales representative Tangy Buchanan has had in the local market.
Before sitting down to lunch and the show, the 800 guests enjoyed a silent-auction social, a major component of which is the sale of baskets filled with everything from beauty products to household goods.
Judy McNeil, a past president of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, coordinated this effort and told us that it took seven women 200 hours to assemble the 90 baskets that were filled with merchandise totaling $10,000.
It also took six cars to transport the baskets from McNeil’s home in Cherry Hills Village to the hotel.
Bertha Lynn, executive director of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation, and guild president Dalyla Creaghe were pleased to help welcome such supporters as Ginny Adler, Nancy Cowee, Andrea Fey, Deb Smith, Emily Tarleton, Lisa Calkins, Anne Hackstock, Gwen Brewer, Elvira Gart, Gina Abou-Jaoude, Margot Gilbert Frank, Lynnette Morrison, Gail Johnson, Kristina Davidson, Sharon Whiton Gelt, Helenn Franzgrote, Diane Smethills, Beverlee Henry; Gretchen Pope; Dianne Bartlett and Eva Schoonmaker, who will chair the Brass Ring Luncheon in 2015.
