Who needs Bono and U2? Not “The Tonight Show,” that’s for sure.

U2 was scheduled for a week-long residency on “The Tonight Show” this week until Bono broke his arm in a biking accident this weekend. So, with Bono at home learning the hazards of two-wheeled non-superstar transportation, Jimmy Fallon and the Roots filled in for U2 on Monday to perform “Desire.”

“We already have the best band in the world — The Roots are here,” Fallon said before pulling some orange shades and a hat from under his desk. “And, Bono’s wardrobe is here, because he was going to wear it tonight. Obviously, he doesn’t need it now.”

In full Bono atire, Fallon leads the Roots through a pretty awesome cover of “Desire.” We already know that the Roots are one of the finest live bands around, and Fallon can handle his own with most musician impression, so it’s not a huge surprise.

And U2 approved of the performance as well. On Monday morning they posted the video on their Facebook along with:

‘The Show Must Go On…’

Sensational performance by Jimmy Fallon and The Roots, stepping in for U2 at the eleventh hour.
