U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn
A Colorado congressman is doing exactly what Republican leaders in Washington don’t want him to do: suggest the possibility of impeaching President Barack Obama.
Republican U.S. Rep. Doug Lamborn of Colorado Springs asked his supporters and constituents today to take a poll about how Congress should respond to Obama’s expected action on immigration.
A survey Congressman Doug Lamborn, R-Colorado Springs, is distributing that mentions the option of impeaching Obama.
The options: defund the request, impeach the president, sue the president, censure the president, do nothing. A screenshot of the survey, by the Colorado Independent, is above.
GOP leaders don’t want the “i-word” mentioned at all — they think it will only help Democrats. :
Senior House and Senate Republicans don’t want their rank and file to even raise the specter of impeaching Obama, fearing it would give Democrats a message to rally around as the presidentap party is split over the hugely controversial move. Ahead of the upcoming announcement, top congressional Republicans are trying to find the right balance between expressing outrage and overreaching, hoping that the battle doesn’t lead to either a government shutdown in December or calls among conservatives to impeach the president.
Texas Sen. John Cornyn, the incoming Senate majority whip, said Wednesday that the GOP response needs to be “appropriate” and measured. “Nobody’s talking about the ‘I’ word like the White House and others,” Cornyn said. “They would love for us to take the bait. We’re not going to take the bait.”
Apparently Lamborn didn’t get the message. But then again, .
