Construction continues on the 519-room Westin hotel and conference center at the front of the Denver International Airport on Nov. 7. (Brent Lewis, The Denver Post)
Re: “DIA CEO responds to audit report on cost overruns: The buck stops here,” Nov. 21 news story.
Kim Day’s statement in the Friday edition of the Denver Post isn’t the stupidest thing I’ve ever read but it is definitely in the top 10.
The obvious fact is that on this project, the bucks don’t stop anywhere but continue to flow, unabated and unaccounted for. I have been a CEO for a number of companies. This is the kind of thing that should and does get people fired. Is anyone paying attention?

This letter was published in the Nov. 25 edition.I had not been to DIA in two years until last August. Coming upon this ugly monstrosity that looks like a big blue battleship — that now blocks the view I came to enjoy of the “tent-like roofing” of the airport — made me gasp. Over-budget and ugly.
Politicians and DIA staff should be held accountable for poor oversight and planning. City Auditor Dennis Gallagher should be commended for taking action.
