Cherry Creek celebrates their 25-24 victory over Valor Christian on Nov. 29. (Kathryn Scott Osler, The Denver Post)
Re: “Cherry Creek defeats Valor Christian in classic 5A championship game,” Nov. 29 story.
If you had the privilege of watching the Cherry Creek vs. Valor state championship football game, you witnessed young men who demonstrated what effort, commitment, teamwork, character, drive and integrity are about.
Both teams and every member of both teams played their hearts out. Both teams were down and both teams were up. There was a game winner and that is good, because it drove everyone involved to exceed beyond their own expectations. And they did. But the real winner was us.
The citizens of Colorado need to take extraordinary pride in the fact that every player and coach was able to demonstrate what we can achieve with the right commitment.
From the kickoff run for a touchdown, there were numerous small contributions that made this game an example to us all of the opportunities that are available if we are willing to “leave it all on the field.” They have made us all better.
