The resurgent He was snapped up by the Florida Gators, who will pay him $3.5 million a year.
Which brings us to the question of the day: Which university is better?
First, a disclaimer. I have a master’s degree from CU, though my heart remains with my undergraduate college. That would be in Durango, better known in educational circles as “The Harvard of the San Juans.”
My brother, Steve, as well as most of my cousins, went to CSU. My next-door neighbor, Lettie Langlois, currently attends CSU.
So my feelings about CU vs. CSU are fairly neutral.
What follows is my incredibly in-depth analysis of our burning question of the day:
• CU leads the all-time football series 62-22, with two ties. The Rams have won two of the last three games. Big edge to CU.
• CU football is foundering in the glamorous Pac-12. CSU is a force in the low-key Mountain West Conference. Edge to CSU.
• CU has Ralphie. CSU has Cam the Ram. Big edge to CU.
• CSU has Horsetooth Reservoir, CU has the Flatirons. Edge to CU.
• CSU plays football at Hughes Stadium, at least until they get a CU plays at Folsom Field. Big edge to CU.
• CSU plays basketball at Moby Arena. CU plays basketball at the Coors Events Center. Big edge to CSU.
• Current Root Sports Rockies reporter Jenny Cavnar graduated from CSU. Former Roots Sports Rockies reporter Allana Rizzo graduated from CU. A tie (no way I’m choosing between two attractive female colleagues and friends).
• Fort Collins is home of New Belgium Brewery, which produces Fat Tire Amber Ale. Longmont (sort of close to Boulder) is home to the Left Hand Brewing Company, which produces Sawtooth Ale. Edge to Fort Collins.
• CU football uniforms are black and gold. CSU wears green and gold. Edge to CU (among the best uniforms in the country).
• Supreme Court Justice Byron “Whizzer” White played football for the Buffs. Former Colorado governors Roy Romer and Bill Ritter both graduated from CSU. Tie.
• According to Playboy magazine, CU did not make the list. Edge to CSU.
Traffic is terrible in Fort Collins. Traffic is terrible in Boulder. Tie.
• CU is California’s college in the Rockies. CSU is much more down to earth. Big edge to CSU.
There are plenty of other comparisons, I’m sure. Discuss among yourselves.
Chew on this
• Headline from the New York Daily Post: “Carmelo horrid as Knicks make team history with another loss.”
“The Knicks are off to their worst start in franchise history thanks to Carmelo Anthony having one of his worst nights as a Knick.
Despite getting plenty of help from his teammates, Anthony couldn’t close the deal as his miserable evening ended with a missed 3-pointer over LeBron James that rimmed out with 1.5 seconds left to seal the Cavaliers 90-87 victory at the Garden.
The Knicks fell to 4-16 — the worst record any Knicks team has ever had after 20 games. Not exactly one for team president Phil Jackson’s résumé.”
I’ve never a Melo fan and I’m even less so these days. In the current , there is a huge profile on Anthony and his attempts to build his image, legacy and fortune. Here’s the most telling quote from the former Nuggets star: “People say I’m all about more money, but it’s about the appearance of success.” Ugh!
• The Yankees are reportedly close to making that would make Arizona’s Didi Gregorius their next shortstop. That should put an end to all of the silly talk that Troy Tulowitzki will be the heir apparent to Derek Jeter in the Big Apple.
• On this date in 1901, Walt Disney, he of Mickey Mouse fame and Disneyland, was born.
• In case you missed it, Gen. Francisco Franco, dictator of Spain from 1939 to 1975, was born 122 years ago yesterday. By the way, . (Only fans of the original Saturday Night Live will get that one).
