The Broncos valued touchbacks more than short punt returns. But they still liked the potential of rookie receiver Isaiah Burse. After Burse cleared waivers on Monday, the Broncos signed the former Fresno State star to their practice squad, waiving offensive lineman Mark Asper.
Burse served as the Broncos’ sole returner this season entering the Buffalo Bills game before the Broncos cut him to clear a spot for kickoff specialist Brandon McManus. Veteran Wes Welker replaced Burse, returning one punt for seven yards.
Burse signed with the Broncos as an undrafted free agent, making the team in training camp following the knee injury Jordan Norwood.
