Amid a season of giving, a Denver Sheriff Department deputy gave the shoes off her feet to a Downtown Detention Center inmate in need.
On Dec. 2, Division Chief Marie Kielar said she saw a woman getting released from jail with her belongings sprawled out in front of her.
Thinking the woman’s bag had broken, Kielar offered to help gather her things.
“She said that she really liked my work shoes. That’s when I noticed that she just had a pair of jail orange slippers,” Kielar said in a Denver Sheriff Department Facebook post.
Kielar asked what size shoe the woman wore, then promptly handed over her own black patent leather lace-ups after learning they were the same size.
“She started crying and gave me a big hug,” Kielar said. “Actually made my day, she was so happy.”
