Taxi drivers line Broadway and Lincoln Street last January to protest the ride-sharing companies Uber and Lyft. (Craig F. Walker, The Denver Post)

Re: “Colorado should upgrade Uber, Lyft regulations,” Dec. 1 guest commentary.

I find Robert McBride’s commentary to smack of irony. An online biography of the Metro Taxi president states that he began his business with a 1973 Cadillac with 350,000 miles on it and his parents’ driveway as his business address. So a one-man, one-car show — very similar to Uber and Lyft today. I wonder if his first Cadillac had “distinctive vehicle markings, specialized license plates, and a driver’s photo,” which he is now advocating for Uber and Lyft.
