COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Fort Carson soldiers brought donated canned goods and gifts to homeless and needy residents in downtown Colorado Springs for a holiday tradition that’s in its fourth year.
The Colorado Springs Gazette reports (http://goo.gl/OdUa51 ) that more than 1,200 soldiers carried several tons of donations to the Marian House Soup Kitchen Friday morning. People lined up at the parking lot to receive the gifts.
The soldiers chanted holiday songs as they walked two miles to get to the soup kitchen.
Maj. Bruce Wagner is a chaplain who helped arrange this year’s march. He says it helps soldiers feel connected to the community.
