A glance at the bill before ‘ final show of a big, sold out Denver run, made it seem like this grand finale would go on all night. You had Esme Patterson, Gregory Alan Isakov, Macon Terry, Desert Noises, Clouds & Mountains all listed on the bill. But, when Shakey Graves’ Alejandro Rose-Garcia took the stage at 10 p.m., it was clear that these artists would join the (formerly) one-man-band throughout the set, rather than provide early support.

And for the rest of the night it became a rotating cast of all-star appearances, with Patterson joining Rose-Garcia for her many collaborations from his new album “And the War Came” then Isakov helping out on a cover of Towns Van Zandt’s “Colorado Girl.” For some of the show Rose-Garcia took his more classic approach on stage — playing alone with his hallowed body guitar, and using a foot pedal and an old suitcase to keep the beat.

The highlight of the night came when the capacity crowd exploded for Patterson and Rose-Garcia’s hit new track, “Dearly Departed.” During the performance, Patterson’s harmonies nearly stole the show from the grizzly-looking Rose-Garcia.
