This “tweener” time makes for tough fishing along the Front Range as many waters have skim ice but not enough for safe ice fishing. Icers should consider heading to South Park, where all the reservoirs have fishable ice. No ice fishing at Spinney. Cameron Pass area is also a great option, while Chambers, Barnes Meadow and Joe Wright all have several inches of ice. Open water anglers will find plenty of place to fish at Boyd, Cherry Creek, Chatfield, Aurora, Carter, Lon Hagler and Horsetooth. Trout fishing has been fair at these area waters. Stream fishers will find good water conditions on the South Platte, Big Thompson, Lower Poudre and Clear Creek. Midge patterns tend to work best at this time.
