There must be something in the water in Yuma County, proud home of Sen.-elect Cory Gardner.

Mike Bennett, chief for staff for South Carolina U.S. Sen. Tim Scott, is a 1972 graduate of Yuma High. State Sen. Greg Brophy, for Congressman-elect Ken Buck of Windsorm lives in Yuma County, although down the way in Wray.

And as Gardner reminded me today, Yuma County Commissioner Trent Bushner is now the president of Colorado Counties Inc.

Gardner also is proud of his new committee assignments. He will serve on: Energy & Natural Resources; Foreign Relations; Commerce, Science, & Transportation and Small Business and Entrepreneurship.

Gardner, in November, will be sworn into office on Jan. 6.
