BOULDER — Boulder County will once again have a Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner program, the first time victims of rape will be able to get their sexual assault examinations done in the county in more than 12 years.

Beginning early next year, a fully certified SANE program will be operating at Boulder Community Health’s Foothills and Arapahoe campus, according to the Boulder district attorney’s office.

“This project, which has been a year in the making, is one of the most significant recent developments in public safety in Boulder County,” Boulder District Attorney Stan Garnett said.

Victims of sexual assaults have had to be taken to SANE units at Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland or St. Anthony’s Hospital in Westminster. The Boulder County commissioners approved funding for nurse training, and the Medical Center of the Rockies will provide trained staffers until the BCH-based staff is fully trained.
