1 Teen cited in school drug search. On Dec. 10, Edgewater police officers participated in an unannounced narcotics search at Jefferson High School, 2305 Pierce St. All the lockers were searched utilizing four K-9 units specially trained in narcotics detection. Four classrooms selected at random were searched by the K-9 units. The only illegal narcotics detected was marijuana ingested by a 15-year-old male student in an attempt to avoid detection by the K-9 units. The juvenile was transported to a local hospital due to his ingestion of the marijuana and was cited for illegal possession of the drug.
2 “This is my hood.” On Dec. 4, Lakewood officers responded to the 5200 block of West Colfax Avenue regarding a possible fight involving a knife. Three men reported walking by the suspect when he said, “What are you looking at? This is my hood. West Side Blood gang. I’ll shank you.” He then pulled the knife on the men. No one was injured.
3 Running car stolen. At about 6 a.m. Dec. 15, a 1997 Nissan was stolen from the 2600 block of Eaton Street in Edgewater when the owner of the vehicle left it running unattended outside his residence due to the cold weather.
4 Father-son fistfight. Lakewood police officers responded to a fight in a parking lot at 6601 W. Colfax Ave. Police broke up the fistfight between a father and his son, and arrested the father for the assault. He was uncooperative with the officers, shouting obscenities during the car ride to jail.
