A man was arrested Wednesday and charged with possession of an explosive device after several pipe bombs were discovered in a Colorado Springs apartment.
Colorado Springs Police were called to the 4400 block of Pikes Peak Avenue at about 2 p.m. after a person reported hearing what sounded like an explosion coming from an apartment.
Investigators found Andy Marrero, 33, as well as several pipe bombs in the residence.
Officials said the department’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal Unit was notified and determined the devices were an active threat.
Officials said late Wednesday that the unit was in the process of rendering the devices safe.
The apartment building was evacuated, with a nearby church used to provide shelter for the displaced.
