GREELEY — Norovirus, influenza, whooping cough and the common cold have forced more than 500 Johnstown/Milliken Re-5J students to miss school the past two days.
A rash of sickness isn’t uncommon in schools, where kids come into contact with other kids quite frequently. Usually, it comes later.
“It’s a little unusual to have it happen right before the Christmas holiday,” Superintendent Martin Foster said. “Usually it happens after.”
Foster said about 12 percent to 15 percent of the 3,400-student district (400-500 students) have been absent the past two days, although Tuesday was better than Monday.
