Re: “Chris Harris agrees to 5-year, $42.5M contract extension with Broncos,” Dec. 13 sports story.

Broncos player Chris Harris has received a five-year, $42.5 million contract. Why? He worked hard and improved his skills. Most American teachers, who have the most challenging job of all — educating the next generation — also work hard. They earn less than a six-figure income.

Our children and our society deserve the best teachers possible. The best way to attract them to teaching is by paying them a well-deserved salary. That way, we can recruit the best teachers possible. How to fund this? Athletes could donate a portion of their incomes to education (salaries, school equipment and supplies), or maybe the individual teams could do so.

Why do sports players deserve to make so much money and teachers don’t?
