Ski and celebrate

Grab the family for a free New Year’s Eve celebration at Granby Ranch on Dec. 31. Starting at 4 p.m. head off the slopes and into the dining hall for dinner and dancing. Then, participate in a glow-stick walking parade, led by a torchlight procession of instructors from Winter Park’s Ski and Ride School. Fireworks conclude the evening.

Big Beers fest returns

The 15th Big Beers, Belgian and Barleywines Festival is Jan. 8-10 in Vail with tastings, competitions, brewmaster dinners, seminars on homebrewing and much more. All events take place at the Vail Cascade Resort and Spa. Ticket prices per event vary.

Hit the ice

Westcliff’s Inaugural Ice Fishing Tournament is Jan. 10. Held at De-Weese Reservoir, this new family tradition will award cash prizes for Rainbow, Brown Trout and Smallmouth. Snowmobiling challenge

Crested Butte Mountain’s third annual Roost the Butte snowmobile weekend is Jan. 9-11. The event includes four snowmobile races (hillcross, snocross, snow ovals and hill drag) for prizes and bragging rights. Skiers and snowboarders can watch the excitement from the terrain park or at the bottom of Gold Link Lift.
