Denver firefighters were hitting hot spots late Monday night from a fire that destroyed a building near the intersection of Interstate 25 and West Colfax Avenue.

Lt. Mike Pylar said the call came in just before 10 p.m. that flames were consuming a one-story commercial building at 1820 W. 13th Avenue.

He said the building appears to be vacant and is posted with for-sale signs but arson investigators are on scene attempting to get into the structure. No determination has been made as to the cause of the fire.

The roof collapsed and some of the walls caved in, Pylar said.

Firefighters at first fought the blaze inside the building, he said, but were eventually pulled out of the structure for their safety.
