COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) — Some hardy climbers are set to finish their annual New Year’s Eve trek up Pikes Peak on Wednesday.

The Gazette (bit.ly/1BgHvbG) reports that 25 members of the AdAmAn Club along with about a dozen guests began hiking the 14,000-foot-plus mountain in frigid conditions Tuesday morning.

Once they reach the summit, they’ll set off fireworks that can be seen along the Front Range and Eastern Plains and hopefully be able to see fireworks from communities below.

Wind chill readings at the top of the mountain could drop down to 19 below zero.

The group, founded in 1922, is named after its practice of adding a man to its ranks each year. They’ve reached the summit every year except 2012, when bad weather forced them to turn back at tree line.
