Punk-folk legend John Doe, co-founder of Los Angeles band X, has been loyal to East Colfax Avenue’s intimate Lion’s Lair for years, despite the fact that he could likely draw a bigger (if equally enthusiastic) crowd elsewhere. He’ll continue the tradition with a Jan. 29-30 run at the Lair, with opener Jesse Dayton. Tickets are on sale. ($22, )

Canadian singer-songwriter Buffy Sainte-Marie, whose “Soulful Shade of Blue” was famously covered by fellow Canuck singer Neko Case on her 2004 live album “The Tigers Have Spoken,” will headline north Denver’s Oriental Theater on Feb. 17. Tickets are on sale. ($18, )

Also at the Oriental: the Jan. 2 Round 3 Finals for Comics Against Civility, arguably Denver’s most gleefully offensive stand-up showcase (Jan. 2, $5), and Jan. 4’s Luche Libre and Laughs stand-up/Mexican wrestling show, featuring headliner Ben Roy and wrestlers Sammy Six Guns and Chris Hero. ($10). Tickets for both are on sale via .

Influential and (until relatively recently) unsung Canadian metal band Anvil will headline Colorado Springs’ Black Sheep on March 7 and Denver’s Marquis Theater on March 8, both with Lord Dying and Sunlord. Tickets for each show are on sale. ($12-$15, TicketWeb)

Summit Music Hall, which is run by the same folks who put on shows at the Marquis and Black Sheep (a.k.a. Soda Jerk Presents) will host the Devil Wears Prada on March 17 with Born of Osiris and the Word Alive, and tickets are on sale. ($19.50-$23, TicketWeb)

Front Range music fans can’t seem to get enough of Karl Denson’s Tiny Universe, as evidenced by the band’s frequent (i.e. multiple times per year) visits. The latest finds horn-player Denson and his crew buoyed by a new album, recent dates opening for the Rolling Stones and an October run at the Ogden Theatre. Tickets for the Feb. 28 Boulder Theater show, with Roosevelt Collier, are on sale. ($22.50-$25, )
