Police in Colorado Springs are investigating after a dog was shot to death in a park on Monday night.
Officers responded to reports of shots fired just before 6 p.m. to Penstemon Park on the 1300 block of Jet Wing Drive.
“Upon arriving on scene, officers determined a dog had been shot and killed by an unknown male suspect who was walking by the park,” police said. “Investigation revealed that the dog was off leash and approached the male suspect, at which time the suspect fired several shots at the dog, killing it.”
Authorities say the suspect then fled the area on foot.
Police say an investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
